What is PPF?
Public Provident Fund (PPF) is a popular long-term saving scheme backed by the Government of India. It offers safety, tax saving benefits, and attractive interest rates that are fully tax-exempt.
Key Features of PPF
- Tenure: Minimum 15 years. Can be extended in blocks of 5 years.
- Investment Limits: Minimum ?500 and Maximum ?1.5 Lakh per financial year.
- Interest Rate: Currently 7.1% p.a (compounded annually). Rates are revised quarterly by the government.

Partial withdrawals are allowed from the 7th financial year onwards. Premature closure is
allowed only after 5 years under specific conditions (medical, education).
Interest is calculated on the minimum balance between the 5th and the end of the month. It is
best to deposit before the 5th of every month.
